Esther 5:11
“Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.”
What does Esther 5:11 mean?
Haman is bragging to his friends and family about everything he has: his wealth, his children, his prestigious position in the king's court, and especially how the king has elevated him above all the other officials. This moment reveals what's really driving him, because just before this, he'd been furious at Mordecai for not bowing to him. All his accomplishments mean nothing to him if there's one person who won't give him the respect he craves. It's a reminder of how empty pride becomes when we're obsessed with being honored by everyone around us, and how quickly jealousy can poison even the most successful life.
