What does Ephesians 5:8 mean?

There's a beautiful shift happening in this verse, from what you *were* to what you *are now*. Paul isn't saying darkness surrounds you or that you struggle with dark thoughts, but that your very nature has been transformed through your relationship with Christ. Light here represents clarity, goodness, and God's truth working in your life. The call to "walk as children of light" is practical: it means letting this transformation show up in how you actually live. Your choices, your honesty, the way you treat others, what you're willing to do or refuse to do—these reflect whether you're living out of your new identity. It's an invitation to let the change that's happened inside you become visible in the world around you.
