What does Deuteronomy 8:14 mean?
When life gets easier and we've moved past our struggles, it's surprisingly common to stop thinking about the One who helped us through. Moses is warning the Israelites that once they settle into their new land and build comfortable lives, they might become so absorbed in their own success that they forget God entirely, even though it was God who rescued them from slavery. The danger isn't wealth or comfort itself, but the spiritual amnesia that comes with it, a kind of forgetfulness that makes us believe we've pulled ourselves up by our own bootstraps. This speaks to something many of us experience: when things are hard, we cry out and remember; when things improve, gratitude can fade into the background.
