Deuteronomy 24:13
“You shall surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless you. It shall be righteousness to you before Yahweh your God.”
What does Deuteronomy 24:13 mean?
When someone was desperately poor in ancient Israel, they might pledge their outer cloak as collateral for a loan, knowing they needed it back to stay warm at night. This command insisted that creditors return it by sunset, prioritizing a person's basic dignity and survival over profit.
