Deuteronomy 24:14
“You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers, or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.”
What does Deuteronomy 24:14 mean?
The law here protects workers from exploitation, especially those who are vulnerable because they depend on their wages to survive. God takes seriously how we treat people who have less power than we do, whether they're members of our own community or outsiders passing through. This reflects a deep principle throughout Scripture: our faith shows itself in how we treat those who can't easily fight back or find help elsewhere. If you're an employer or in any position of authority over others, this is an invitation to examine whether you're paying fairly, treating people with dignity, and remembering that their survival often depends on the work you give them.
