Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.

What does Deuteronomy 18:15 mean?

Moses is telling the Israelites that God will send them future prophets who will speak God's word—people from their own community who will guide them the way Moses himself has done. This promise meant the people wouldn't be left without spiritual leadership after Moses was gone; God would continue speaking to them through chosen messengers. Throughout Israel's history, this passage gave people hope that God hadn't abandoned them, and many later saw Jesus as the ultimate fulfillment of this promise: a teacher and guide who came from among humanity to show us how to live and what God truly wants for us. The core idea is comforting for any of us who wonder if God still speaks or guides today.
