Deuteronomy 16:11
“You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite who is within your gates, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are among you, in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.”
What does Deuteronomy 16:11 mean?
God is calling his people to celebrate together across every line that normally divides them: rich and poor, family and hired help, citizens and foreigners, those with family support and those without. The picture is of a meal or festival where everyone shares the same joy in God's presence, not just the privileged few. When you gather to worship and rejoice, you're meant to actively include people society often forgets or pushes to the margins. This isn't about charity from a distance but genuine celebration together, which transforms how we see one another and reminds us that God's care extends to everyone, and so should ours.
