What does Colossians 3:12 mean?

Being chosen by God isn't about earning special status, but about receiving an invitation to live differently. Paul is saying that because you've been loved and set apart by God, you're now free to clothe yourself with qualities that reflect his character: compassion for those who suffer, kindness even when it costs you something, the willingness to humble yourself, and the strength to keep going when things get hard. The image of "putting on" these virtues is like getting dressed in the morning, suggesting this is something you actively choose each day. When you're struggling or tempted toward harshness or pride, you can deliberately reach for compassion instead. This isn't about performing for God's approval, since his love is already secure, but about letting that love reshape how you treat yourself and others.
