Amos 6:2
“Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border?”
What does Amos 6:2 mean?
Amos is challenging the wealthy people of Israel to look around at other powerful nations and cities, then honestly ask themselves whether Israel is really so secure and superior that they can ignore God's warnings. He's essentially saying, "Look at Calneh, Hamath, and Gath, they were all mighty once too, but where are they now?" The prophet is pointing out that these places had fallen into decline or been conquered, yet the Israelites act as if their own kingdom is invincible and immune to judgment. His question cuts to the heart of the matter: if those nations weren't protected by their strength and size, why do you think you will be? It's a wake-up call wrapped in a challenge, meant to shake people out of their spiritual complacency before it's too late.
