Amos 6:1
“Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!”
What does Amos 6:1 mean?
Amos speaks here to the wealthy and powerful people of his time who had grown comfortable and complacent while ignoring injustice around them. Despite Israel's outward success and prominence among nations, their spiritual and moral foundation was crumbling, yet the leaders seemed oblivious to it. His "woe" is a serious warning that comfort built on overlooking wrongdoing is fragile and won't last. The message cuts across every era: ease and security mean little when we've stopped paying attention to how we're treating others or whether we're living faithfully.
