What does Acts 11:22 mean?
When the church in Jerusalem heard that God was working powerfully among non-Jewish people in Antioch, they decided to send someone trustworthy to see what was actually happening. Barnabas was the perfect choice, both because he had a reputation for being encouraging and generous, and because he himself had already experienced God breaking down barriers between different groups of believers. His job was essentially to investigate whether this new movement was genuine and to help guide these new believers. This moment marks an important shift in the early church, as leaders began to grapple with what it meant that salvation wasn't just for Jewish people but was reaching far beyond what many expected.
