What does Acts 11:19 mean?
When Stephen was killed for his faith, it sparked intense persecution that sent Jesus's followers fleeing Jerusalem in different directions. Rather than silencing the message, this scattering actually spread it—these believers carried their faith to distant cities like Antioch, which would become one of the earliest and most vibrant Christian communities outside of Jerusalem. At this early stage, however, they were still cautious, sharing about Jesus only with other Jews who already understood the Hebrew scriptures and traditions. This wasn't fear exactly, but rather a natural starting point: they spoke to those who shared their background and could better grasp what they were saying about their crucified and risen Messiah. What's remarkable is that suffering didn't stop the gospel's movement; it accelerated it, planting seeds in new soil that would eventually grow in unexpected ways.
