2 Timothy 2:19

However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”

What does 2 Timothy 2:19 mean?

Paul wrote this to Timothy during difficult times when false teachers were spreading confusion in the church. The point is reassuring: even when everything feels unstable around you, God's foundation remains unshakeable because he genuinely knows his people. That knowledge isn't distant or abstract, it's intimate and real. The second part isn't about perfection but about direction, the turn your heart makes when you truly belong to God. If you claim to follow Jesus, there's a natural movement away from deliberately choosing what's wrong. This doesn't mean you'll never stumble, but it means your core orientation changes. It's a call to integrity, inviting you to let your actions match what you say you believe.
