What does 2 Timothy 2:20 mean?
Paul uses the image of a grand household to describe the church, where different kinds of vessels serve different purposes—and all are necessary. Some dishes might be fine china reserved for important guests, while others are simple pottery used for everyday tasks or disposal. The point isn't that some people are inherently better than others, but that we each have a role to play, and we honor God by fulfilling ours faithfully, whatever it is. This encourages humility and clarity about purpose. If you're doing humble, behind-the-scenes work, that matters. And if you've been given visibility or influence, that's a responsibility, not a badge of superiority. The real question isn't whether your vessel is gold or clay, but whether you're allowing yourself to be used for something good.
