2 Corinthians 12:9
“He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.”
What does 2 Corinthians 12:9 mean?
Paul is sharing something Jesus told him directly, and it cuts against everything we naturally want to believe. When Paul asked God to remove some painful struggle from his life (he called it a "thorn in the flesh"), Jesus didn't say yes, but instead promised that God's grace would be enough, and that God's strength actually shows up most clearly when we're weak and can't fix things ourselves. Rather than being ashamed of his struggles, Paul learned to actually take pride in them, because they became the places where he experienced Christ's power most genuinely. This is deeply comforting for anyone who feels broken or inadequate, because it means your weakness isn't disqualifying you from God's work, it's actually the exact place where you're most open to receiving real help.
