2 Corinthians 12:10
“Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.”
What does 2 Corinthians 12:10 mean?
Paul is describing something that feels backwards at first: he's saying he actually finds joy in his hardships, not because suffering is good in itself, but because going through it with Jesus has taught him something profound. When he hits the limits of what he can do on his own strength, he stops relying on himself and leans entirely on God's power instead. This isn't Paul being masochistic or pretending pain doesn't hurt. He's experienced real persecution, illness, and opposition, and he's learned through it that his weakness is where God's strength becomes most real and visible. There's an honest trade happening: he loses confidence in his own abilities, and gains confidence that God is actually there, actually working, actually enough. That exchange is worth celebrating, even if the circumstances that brought it about were painful. If you're in a season where you feel weak or unable to manage on your own, this verse reminds you that you're not in a bad position spiritually, you're in the exact position where God does some of his most powerful work.
