2 Chronicles 25:9

Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “Yahweh is able to give you much more than this.”

What does 2 Chronicles 25:9 mean?

King Amaziah had just hired soldiers from Israel to help fight his enemies, paying them a huge sum of money. But a prophet told him this alliance was a mistake, so Amaziah sent them home, worried about losing his investment. His anxiety here is completely human, yet the prophet's response cuts to something deeper: when obedience to God requires a financial sacrifice, God doesn't leave us in the red. The promise isn't that we'll always get richer in worldly terms, but that following God's direction is never actually a loss, even when it feels costly in the moment. Sometimes trusting God means letting go of what we've already paid for.
