1 Timothy 6:16

What does 1 Timothy 6:16 mean?
God exists in a kind of reality so far beyond ours that human eyes literally cannot perceive him. The "unapproachable light" isn't just brightness, it's the idea that his nature is so completely other, so entirely set apart, that we can't draw near in the way we approach other things. This isn't meant to make God seem cold or distant, but rather to capture something true: whatever we experience of God in prayer or faith or scripture, we're always encountering him through a veil, because the fullness of who he is would overwhelm our capacity to understand.
