What does 1 Timothy 6:17 mean?
Paul is speaking directly to anyone with wealth, asking them to hold it with humility rather than pride. The real danger isn't having money itself, but letting it inflate your sense of importance or become the foundation of your security, since wealth can disappear unexpectedly through loss or crisis. Instead, Paul invites the wealthy (and really, all of us) to root our confidence in God's steady provision and character. When our hope rests there rather than on our bank accounts, we're free to actually enjoy what we have without the anxiety of constantly protecting it or the emptiness of thinking it's enough to fulfill us. God's generosity is the deeper reality behind every good thing in our lives.
