1 Thessalonians 3:8
βFor now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.β
What does 1 Thessalonians 3:8 mean?
Paul is expressing something deeply true about Christian community: when people we care about remain steadfast in their faith, it genuinely sustains us. He's not being dramatic or exaggerating for effect. There's a real spiritual and emotional reality here that anyone who's walked alongside others through doubt or crisis can understand. Knowing that those we've prayed for and invested in are holding firm in their faith gives us courage and purpose. This matters especially when you're tired or discouraged in your own journey. Sometimes what keeps us going isn't just our own convictions but the witness of others who are staying faithful. Paul is saying that's not weakness or codependency, that's actually how the body of Christ is meant to work, we're genuinely intertwined in this together.
