What does 1 Samuel 29:7 mean?
Achish, the Philistine king, is telling David to leave his army before a battle against Israel. David had been living in Philistine territory as a refugee from King Saul, and Achish had grown to trust him, but the other Philistine commanders didn't want him fighting alongside them. This moment reveals a mercy hidden inside what might look like rejection: David is being sent away from a battle where he would have faced his own people in combat, a devastating conflict he couldn't have won without betraying someone. Sometimes what feels like being pushed out is actually being protected from an impossible choice.
