“Then Achish called David, and said to him, “As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you.”
What does 1 Samuel 29:6 mean?
Achish, a Philistine king, is telling David that he personally trusts him completely and sees no fault in his character or conduct. Yet the other Philistine leaders won't allow David to fight alongside them against Israel, and Achish has to send him away. It's a painful moment where David is caught between two worlds: he's earned genuine respect from someone in power, but political pressure forces that person to let him go anyway. Sometimes being trustworthy and dependable isn't enough to change circumstances beyond one person's control, and that kind of rejection can sting even when it's not personal.
