What does 1 Samuel 15:16 mean?
Samuel is calling Saul to pause and listen closely, because he has a message directly from God that Saul needs to hear. This moment comes after Saul has already disobeyed God's command about completely destroying the Amalekites, keeping some of the plunder for himself instead. Saul agrees to listen, but what's about to come will be difficult: Samuel is about to tell him that God has rejected him as king because of his disobedience. It's a sobering reminder that hearing God's word doesn't always feel comfortable, and that obedience matters more than our own reasoning about what seems acceptable or practical.
