What does 1 Peter 4:2 mean?
Peter is writing to Christians who've decided to follow Jesus, and he's encouraging them to make a clean break from their old way of living. He's saying that the time you have left on earth is an opportunity to stop chasing what feels good in the moment—money, status, pleasure, revenge—and instead orient your life around what God actually values. The shift he's describing isn't about becoming joyless or punishing yourself. It's about redirecting your energy and choices toward things that matter: loving people, growing in faith, serving others, seeking justice, showing kindness. When you're going through a hard season especially, this can be surprisingly freeing, because it means you're not wasting your limited emotional and spiritual resources trying to impress people or numb your pain with empty pursuits.
