What does 1 Peter 1:16 mean?

Peter is reminding his readers of something God said long ago: that holiness isn't optional or something only for special people, but a calling for everyone who follows Him. When God says "I am holy," He means He's set apart, pure, and completely trustworthy, and His invitation to us is to reflect that same character in how we live. This doesn't mean becoming perfect or withdrawing from the world. It means gradually letting go of what harms us and others, and moving toward integrity, kindness, and honesty in our everyday choices. For people going through difficult seasons, it's a gentle reminder that even small steps toward living with more truth and compassion matter, and that we're not meant to make this journey alone but with God's help.
