“In this love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so are we in this world.”
What does 1 John 4:17 mean?
When Jesus came and showed us what perfect, self-giving love looks like, that love became the standard by which we live and are known. The idea here is that as we grow in understanding and reflecting that kind of love, we develop a quiet confidence about facing God's judgment, not because we've earned perfection but because we're learning to be like Christ in how we treat one another and move through the world.
