What does 1 John 4:16 mean?
John is telling us something beautifully simple: you can actually *know* God's love for you, not just theorize about it. When you experience and trust that love, something shifts in your relationship with God. You're no longer relating to him as a distant judge but as someone who is fundamentally loving toward you. The statement "God is love" doesn't mean love is God, but rather that love is God's core nature. Everything he does flows from that. And when we genuinely remain (stay rooted, dwell) in that love, we're not separate from God anymore. It's mutual: we're in him, and he's in us. This isn't about earning his presence through perfect behavior, but about letting his love define where we stand and how we live. It's the kind of belonging many of us are desperately searching for.
