What does 1 John 3:9 mean?
John is describing what it means to be spiritually transformed, not claiming that Christians never struggle with wrongdoing. The "seed" he mentions is God's life and nature working within us, reshaping how we think and what we want. When we're genuinely connected to God, sin loses its grip on us because our deepest identity changes, not because we suddenly become perfect. This can feel confusing when we look at our own lives and see ourselves stumbling. But John is pointing to the trajectory and the core of who we become, not an impossible standard we must instantly achieve. He's saying that God's presence in us creates a real shift toward goodness, even as we're still learning and growing. It's both an encouragement and an invitation to keep turning toward that new identity God has given us.
