1 John 3:8

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.

What does 1 John 3:8 mean?

When we choose to sin, we're aligning ourselves with the devil's nature and purposes, not God's. The devil has been in rebellion against God since creation itself, and every act of sin echoes that original defiance. But here's the hope: Jesus came specifically to undo and dismantle everything the devil has built, including the power sin holds over us. This doesn't mean Christians never struggle with temptation or mistakes, but that through Christ we can break free from patterns of sin and be restored to our true identity as God's children.
