What does 1 John 2:4 mean?
There's a sharp honesty here about what genuine faith actually looks like. John is saying that claiming to know God, or to follow Jesus, means something concrete has to change in how we live. It's not enough to say the right things or feel a certain way on Sunday. This doesn't mean we have to be perfect, but it does mean we're honestly trying to let God's values shape our choices. When we say we love God but live in ways that contradict that, we're fooling ourselves more than anyone else. John calls this what it is: a disconnect between what we claim and what's actually true about us. The hard invitation here is to let our walk match our talk.
