What does 1 John 2:3 mean?
John is saying that genuine relationship with God shows up in how we actually live. It's not enough to say we know Jesus or believe in him, the real evidence is whether we're trying to follow what he taught us to do. This doesn't mean we have to be perfect, or that stumbling around trying to live better makes us earn God's love. Instead, John is pointing out that if we truly know God and understand what he's about, we naturally want to align our lives with his values, his compassion, his honesty. It's like how you can tell if someone really understands music by listening to what they create, or if someone truly loves their family by how they show up for them.
