As we have borne the image of those made of dust, let’s also bear the image of the heavenly.

What does 1 Corinthians 15:49 mean?

Paul is inviting us to think about transformation. Just as we naturally inherited Adam's earthly, mortal nature (being "made of dust"), we can also grow into reflecting Christ's heavenly nature through faith. This isn't something that happens automatically or all at once, but rather something we participate in as we follow Jesus and let the Spirit reshape us. The beauty here is that Paul doesn't say we're stuck with only one image. He's saying there's a real possibility of becoming increasingly like Christ, of taking on heavenly qualities like love, peace, and resurrection hope even while we're still living earthly lives. It's an invitation wrapped in the promise that our transformation is possible, not just commanded.
