Zechariah 8:6
“Yahweh of Armies says: “If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?” says Yahweh of Armies.”
What does Zechariah 8:6 mean?
God is gently challenging his people's doubts about his promises. After exile and hardship, the returning Israelites had grown small in number and confidence, finding it almost impossible to believe that God could restore their community and rebuild their temple. God asks: if something seems too difficult or unlikely for you to imagine, does that make it impossible for me? This is an invitation to recalibrate our sense of what's possible. God isn't dismissing their skepticism as foolish, but rather pointing out that his power and perspective are fundamentally different from ours. When we're worn down by circumstances or loss, it's natural to think restoration is beyond reach, but God reminds us that what looks miraculous or impossible from where we stand may be well within his capacity. The question itself is an act of kindness, inviting exhausted people to consider that maybe their circumstances don't have the final word.
