What does Zechariah 7:13 mean?

When God's people repeatedly ignored his prophets and turned away from his guidance, they set in motion a painful consequence: they would eventually cry out to him in their own distress, only to find him silent. This isn't punishment born from cruelty, but the natural result of broken relationship, like someone who hangs up the phone on a loved one and then finds themselves unable to reach that person when they need help. Zechariah delivered this warning to remind the community that dismissing God's voice doesn't come without cost. The message carries both a stern warning and an invitation: if people will turn back and listen while there's still time, they can avoid the loneliness of calling out into silence.
