Zechariah 2:8
“For Yahweh of Armies says: ‘For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.”
What does Zechariah 2:8 mean?
God is declaring fierce protection over his people here, using the striking image of the "apple of the eye," which refers to the pupil, the most sensitive and guarded part of our vision. When someone harms God's people, they're touching something precious and irreplaceable to him, something he defends instinctively and completely. This comes after Zechariah's vision of Jerusalem's restoration, so God is essentially promising that nations who have oppressed his people will answer to him, and that his honor is bound up with their vindication. The message is meant to comfort those who feel forgotten or abandoned: you matter intensely to God, and your pain registers with him so deeply that he takes it personally.
