Zechariah 1:14
“So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.”
What does Zechariah 1:14 mean?
God's jealousy here isn't petty or insecure, the way we might think of human jealousy. Instead, it's the fierce, protective love of someone who has chosen you and won't abandon that choice. Jerusalem and Zion were God's people, dwelling in God's land, and after exile and hardship they needed to hear that they hadn't been forgotten or replaced. When God says "I am jealous for you," it means you matter enough to fight for, enough to want back, enough to refuse to let go of. In a season when the people felt worthless and abandoned, this was an assurance that their belonging to God was real and worth God's passionate care.
