Ruth 1:9

May Yahweh grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices, and wept.

What does Ruth 1:9 mean?

Naomi is blessing her two young widowed daughters-in-law as they prepare to part ways. In that ancient world, a woman's security and survival depended heavily on being part of a household, so Naomi's prayer for them to find rest in a husband's home was genuinely wishing them safety, stability, and a future. What makes this moment tender is that she's letting them go, even though she herself is heading back to her own people with nothing, and she loves them enough to release them to better possibilities. The tears that follow show how much this goodbye costs everyone involved, despite knowing it might be the kindest thing.
