Romans 9:33

What does Romans 9:33 mean?
Paul is quoting Old Testament prophecies to explain something difficult: Jesus himself becomes a dividing line for people. Some encounter him and find solid ground for faith, while others see him as an obstacle that trips them up. The "stumbling stone" isn't meant to harm but to test, and those who trust in him discover he's trustworthy, not disappointing. This addresses a real tension in Paul's time. Many Jewish people expected the Messiah to come in overwhelming power and triumph, so a crucified, rejected Jesus seemed like a failed promise. But Paul is saying that disappointment comes not from Jesus failing us, but from our expectations being wrong. When we actually believe in him, we find he's exactly the foundation we need.
