Romans 8:6
βFor the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;β
What does Romans 8:6 mean?
When Paul talks about "the mind of the flesh," he means the way of thinking that prioritizes our own desires, comfort, and control without regard for God or others. He's not saying your body is evil, but rather that living only for immediate gratification and self-interest leads to spiritual emptiness and isolation, which he calls death. By contrast, when we align our thoughts with God's Spirit, we find ourselves oriented toward love, purpose, and genuine connection, which brings both life and the deep peace that comes from knowing we're moving in the right direction. It's the difference between a life that feeds only itself and slowly withers, and one that opens itself to something larger and more lasting.
