What does Romans 8:4 mean?
Paul is saying that when we live guided by God's Spirit rather than by our own desires, something remarkable happens: we actually fulfill the deeper purpose behind God's law. He's not talking about checking off rules, but about becoming the kind of people the law was always pointing us toward, people shaped by love and integrity. The "flesh" here doesn't mean our bodies are bad, but rather our self-centered impulses and stubborn resistance to God. When we let the Spirit work in us instead, we find ourselves naturally living in ways that reflect God's character, which is what the law was always meant to reveal. It's the difference between obedience out of fear and transformation from the inside out.
