Romans 7:12
“Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.”
What does Romans 7:12 mean?
Paul wrote this after wrestling with how the law reveals our sinfulness, and he wants to be absolutely clear: the problem isn't God's law itself. The law is holy, righteous, and good, reflecting God's perfect character and wisdom. What happens is that our own brokenness comes into contact with that goodness, and we experience our failure. If you've ever felt the weight of knowing what's right but being unable to do it, Paul is speaking to that struggle, not blaming the moral standards themselves. He's saying God gave us something perfect, and the real issue is in us, which is why we need grace.
