Romans 5:18
“So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life.”
What does Romans 5:18 mean?
Just as Adam's disobedience brought condemnation to all of humanity, Christ's act of perfect obedience opens the door to justification for everyone. Paul is drawing a parallel between two pivotal moments in human history to show that what one person did had cosmic consequences for all of us, both in our fall and in our redemption. The beautiful part is that this isn't saying everyone automatically experiences this justification, but rather that it's now available to all who receive it. One person's sin cast us into a broken relationship with God, and one person's righteousness made it possible for that relationship to be restored. The weight of our restoration doesn't rest on our own ability to earn it back, but on what Christ accomplished for us.
