Romans 4:2
“For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.”
What does Romans 4:2 mean?
Paul is walking through a logical argument here: if Abraham had earned God's approval through his own efforts and obedience, then he'd have grounds to be proud of himself. But that's not how it actually works with God. The point isn't that Abraham did nothing, but rather that whatever Abraham accomplished, it didn't create a debt God owed him or give him a claim to brag about before the Creator. This matters especially for people feeling like they have to perfectly earn their way into God's favor, or wondering if they've done enough. Paul is saying that standing right with God comes through a different channel entirely, not through a scorecard of good works.
