Romans 3:6
“May it never be! For then how will God judge the world?”
What does Romans 3:6 mean?
Paul asks this question to stop us in our tracks. He's responding to someone who might think, "If my dishonesty actually highlights God's honesty and makes his faithfulness look better, isn't that a good thing?" It sounds clever until you realize where that logic leads: it would mean God can't fairly judge anyone, because our wrongs would just serve his purposes. The point is that God's character doesn't depend on our failures to shine through. His justice is real and serious, not something that gets sidestepped because sin accidentally serves a bigger purpose. Paul is reminding us that God takes our choices and their consequences seriously, that we're genuinely accountable, and that his integrity doesn't need our mess to make it look good.
