Romans 3:19
“Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.”
What does Romans 3:19 mean?
Paul is explaining that God's law in Scripture wasn't given only to a few people in the past, but it speaks directly to those living under it, which includes all of us. The point is that the law was designed to silence excuses and show us our need for something beyond ourselves, namely God's grace and mercy. When we honestly examine ourselves against God's standards, we can't justify ourselves or pretend we don't need help. This isn't meant to condemn us into despair, but rather to humble us and open our hearts to receive the forgiveness that comes through Christ, which is what Paul builds toward in the verses that follow.
