What does Romans 15:18 mean?
Paul is being honest about the limits of what he can claim credit for. He's saying he won't brag about accomplishments that weren't genuinely God's work through him, but only about what Christ actually accomplished using him as a vessel. His whole ministry, in both what he taught and how he lived it out, was aimed at drawing non-Jewish people into obedience and faith. What makes this striking is Paul's humility. Despite his impressive resume, missionary journeys, and letters that shaped Christianity, he refuses to take ownership of the results. He's acknowledging that any real spiritual impact came from Christ working through him, not from his own abilities or effort.
