Romans 13:8
“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.”
What does Romans 13:8 mean?
The apostle Paul invites us to think of love as a debt we can never fully repay, the one obligation that keeps giving back. When we genuinely love our neighbors, we're actually completing everything the law was ever trying to teach us, since laws against stealing, lying, and harm all flow from the principle of caring for others. This doesn't mean you should never borrow money or have reasonable obligations to others, but rather that love should be the foundation underneath everything we do. It's Paul's way of saying that if your relationships are built on authentic care for people, you'll naturally live in a way that honors God and treats others well.
