Romans 11:30
“For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience,”
What does Romans 11:30 mean?
Paul is describing a remarkable reversal in history. The non-Jewish believers in Rome once lived without God's law and walked away from Him, yet they found mercy through the Jewish people's temporary rejection of Jesus. In other words, when many Jewish leaders refused to accept Christ, that opened the door for the gospel to spread to the Gentiles, and those Gentiles received the grace that was offered to them. This isn't meant to blame anyone, but to show how God works through unexpected turns. Paul wants his readers to understand that mercy flows in surprising ways, and that should make us humble about judging others or feeling superior in our faith. Everyone, whether Jewish or non-Jewish, needs and receives God's compassion.
