True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear;

What does Romans 11:20 mean?

Paul is addressing believers who might feel superior now that many Jewish people have rejected Jesus. He's saying: yes, some were separated from God's people because of unbelief, and you're included because you do believe. But this is a reason for humility, not pride. Your faith isn't something you earned or achieved on your own, so there's nothing to boast about. The warning "fear" means to take seriously the responsibility that comes with belonging to God, and to remember that your place in his family depends on continuing to trust him, just as theirs was lost when they stopped trusting.
