What does Romans 10:3 mean?
Paul is describing a painful spiritual trap: people who work so hard to be good and measure up that they actually miss what God offers. They're focused on building their own moral record, checking boxes, proving themselves worthy. The tragedy is that this very effort becomes a wall between them and God's acceptance. The underlying issue isn't laziness or rebellion, but a kind of spiritual pride disguised as effort. People convince themselves that if they just try hard enough, do enough good, they'll earn their standing with God. But that mindset resists the radical gift God extends, which requires admitting we can't earn it ourselves. It's the difference between climbing a ladder you built and stepping through a door someone opened for you.
